More Information about the ALO Program
All ALOs must meet the minimum requirements set below
- Belief in the US Air Force Academy Mission: To forge leaders of character, motivated to a lifetime of service, and developed to lead our Air Force and Space Force as we fight and win our Natin’s wars.
- Desire to support candidates, and the Directorate of Admissions in identifying tomorrow’s leaders today
- Willingness and ability to work within a team environment
- Willingness to represent the Directorate of Admissions at select public/private schools, college fairs, Congressional Service Academy Days, Admissions Information Meetings, and Falcon Forums
- Willingness to facilitate and complete interviews with competitive candidates
Additional Duty (AD) ALO Duties and Responsibilities
· Reserve requirements: Maintain readiness requirements as an AFRC member. Complete administrative duties (ex: OPB, PRFs, logging of participation points, etc.) minimal oversight.
· Mentorship: Mentors current and potential applicants. Answer questions relating to USAFA academic, military, athletic, and airmanship programs. Prepare candidates for the candidate interview.
· Candidate Evaluations: Conduct virtual interviews with assigned candidates. Assesses candidate’s character and leadership potential and compatible motivation to serve in the Air Force and Space Force.
· Outreach: As requested and as time allows, visit schools and engage with counselors, teachers, and students about USAFA.
Eligibility Criteria
· May be Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, Federal Civilian, or Civilian
· May be in the rank of Colonel or higher
· May be in the JAG, Medical, or Chaplain Corp
Ineligibility
· Officer performance reports should not reflect unfavorable information or contain negative references or comments regarding conduct, attitude, or inability to work and function well with the public. Officer performance reports must "meet standards" and receive the support of the additional rater and reviewer.
· Involvement in any public or private activity which conflicts or reflects negatively on the Air Force, USAFA, AFROTC, or the overall ALO program.
Preferred Qualifications
· USAFA Grad
· Resides or planning to reside in the geographic area
· Experience in and knowledge of geographic area
· Knowledge of high schools in geographic area
· Current or past experience/connection with STEM/Aviation/Youth Leadership programs/agencies (CAP, JROTC, Scouting, Robotics, Boy and Girls Club, FFA/4H, etc.)
Primary Duty (PD) ALO Duties and Responsibilities

Eligibility Criteria
· Must be an Air Force Officer in the grade of O-3 to O-5. May be a current Active Duty officer transitioning to the Reserves or a current AFRC or ANG member.
· Current Record of Performance (ROP).
Ineligibility
· Assignment to the Inactive Status List Reserve Section with 20 years of satisfactory federal service for retirement
· Assignement to the Inactive Status List Reserve Section twice for failure to meet participation requirements for retention in an active Reserve status.
· Within two (2) years of maximum service date.
· Currently in a failed promotion status.
· Assignment to Obligated Reserve Section/Reserve Corps and served less than two (2) years.
· Assignment to The Judge Advocate General’s Corps (TJAGC), chaplain corp, or medical AFSC.
· Rank of lieutenant colonel or colonel with 20 or more satisfactory years’ service and eligible for retirement.
· Rank of General Officer.

As an ALO you are not allowed to sit on any congressional nomination panels/boards. You are also not allowed to be a permanently assigned member to USAFA. We are willing to work with you on a case by case basis so reach out to our team if you have any questions.
